Tagged

Okay so I have been tagged by my dear friend Debra and also threatened that if I didn't do this she would log in and write some scary stuff about me so here is goes. I'm supposed to note six random/unknown things about myself and then tag others to do the same. I think I'll just post what I have and if anyone else wants to do this they can but no one is being tagged by me.

1. I am notorious for reading every diet/heath book out there. I know so many little facts that I love to share with everyone. I just have a bit of a problem applying these aspects into me life. I think I like food a bit too much!

2. I have a goal to one day go skinny dipping with my husband. Preferable in a pool where there is no chance of anyone see us.

3. I have quite a large collection of cookbooks. I love buying them and looking through the recipes but I hardly make any of them. I am a very picky eater and if I see something in a recipe that I don't like then I won't make it. I am much better at making items that I have tasted previously and like. I also love to hand my cookbooks off to my friends to find/try out recipes for me and then share with me!

4. I used to be a very shy little girl. My mom didn't know what to do with me. I just wouldn't talk to anyone. I bet that is hard to believe knowing me now. If you give me a chance I will talk your ear off!

5. I can' keep plants alive. I don't know what it is about me but I try and everything just dies. I used to live in an apartment that had a little yard. I loved to plant pretty flowers and every time they died. The only thing that stayed alive was Ivy! Like anyone can even kill Ivy! The funny thing about this is that I still have a goal to one day have a garden in my yard and I really think I can do it and have something grow from it.

6. I have a huge pet peeve about toilets. In my house the toilet must always be closed if no one is using the toilet. I think toilets are dirty and I hate to walk into a bathroom with the toilet lid open. I will always close the lid after I use the toilet at anyone's house and I have been known to ask my house guests to follow this rule while staying at my house.

Vote YES on Prop 8

This is a very important proposition to change the California constitution to only recognize marriage between a man and a woman. I don't know if many of you realize the importance of this proposition and the change it will have on our families and children if this does not pass. Here are some of the facts of how this will effect us.

1. Children in public schools will have to be taught that same-sex marriage is just as good as traditional marriage.
2. Churches may be sued over their tax exempt status if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their religious buildings open to the public.
3. Religious adoption agencies will be challenged by government agencies to give up their long-held right to place children only in homes with both a mother and a father.
4. Religions that sponsor private schools with married student housing may be required to provide housing for same-sex couples, even if counter to church doctrine, or risk lawsuits over tax exemptions adn related benefits.
5. Ministers who proach against same-sex marriages may be sued for hate speech and risk government fines. A recent California court held that municipal employees may not say: "traditional marriage," or "family values" becuase, after the same-sex marrigae case, it is "hate speech".
6. It will cost you money. This change in the definition of marriage will brind a cascade of lawsuits, including some already lost (e.g., photographers cannot now refuse to photograph gay marriages, doctors cannot now refuse to perform aftificial insemination of gays even given other willing doctors).

When I think about what this could mean to me and the lives of my children I have to take a stand for what I feel is right. I hate to thunk that this wonderful country that we live in is going to take away my right to stand up for my beliefs and teach my children that marriage is ordained my God between and man and a woman. I hate to think of my sweet little boy going to school in a couple of years and being taught in Kindergarden about homosexuality and that I cannot stop it. I hate to think that I cannot speak about traditionl families or family values without the treat of hate speech.

Please find it in our heart to protect our little children and this world that we live it and vote Yes of Prop 8. If you have not registered to vote you still have time to let your voice be heard. Please register before Oct 20th.

High School Memories

1. Did you date someone from your school?
Well you could say that I dated quite a few guys from my high school and other surrounding cities but mostly just first dates.

2. What kind of car did you drive?
A bright red 1965 Ford Falcon!

3. What was the most embarrassing moment of HS?
I would have to say that I had a bit of an incident with some lovely seagulls during lunch one year in front of quite a few viewers!

4. Were you a party animal?
Oh yeah partying it up Mormon style!

5. Were you considered a flirt?
Maybe but probably more like a tease!

6. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
Nope just sports.

7. Were you a nerd?
No I thought I was the coolest girl ever! J/K I think I fit it somewhere in the middle.

8. Were you on any varsity teams?
Nope I did sport for the social aspect.

9. Did you ever get suspended/expelled?
Yeah right. I was such a good girl!

10. Can you still sing the fight song?
Some of it.

11. Who were your favorite teachers?
Definitely Mr. Dedolder.

12. Where did you sit during lunch?
Some times in the Pavilion, or my house and lots of trips to Taco Bell.

13. School mascot?
Scottie Dogs. Oh so intimidating I know!

14. Did you go to homecoming, and with whom?
Yep with Chris Tolman. It was a great night and he was a good date to me even though he had a girl friend at the time. We did take a pimped out limo that was a bit embarrassing. Yes at my high school people spent lots of money to take a limo to your high school gym for homecoming. I think homecoming was bigger than prom at my school!

15. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
I would go back to enjoy the easy life and good times. I would not want to deal with all the high school drama though.

16. What do you remember most about graduation?
Mostly grad night and meeting my husband there!

17. Where did you go on senior skip day?
The Beach. I remember Debra calling her work from a pay phone (yeah no cell phones for us) to tell them she was sick, with the sound of the waves crashing in the background!

18. Were you in any clubs?
Nope.

19. Have you gained some weight since then?
Um yeah my 30 year old body is nothing like my 18 year old body! I guess you can say that age and babies have taken their toll on me.

20. Who was your prom date?
Depends on which prom you are talking about. I went to four so David, Jason, Darren and Luke.

21. Are you planning on going to your 10 year reunion?
Nope. It already happened and I'm not too sad about missing it.

22. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Just have fun and enjoy the easy life. Oh and of course to stay away from all of the drama of teenage life!

Kevin's Birthday

Kevin's birthday was back in August and if you read in a previous blog he got a new surfboard for his birthday. Well I couldn't just let his birthday pass by without any type of celebration. How fun would that be? So the morning of his birthday I decided that I would come up with 31 presents that would reflect things he enjoys. So to say the least the day was spent thinking of the items and then finding them and wrapping them. The items consisted of things like clothes, favorite candies and snacks, favorite drinks, games, books, movies, etc. I made an extra effort to wrap each item individually and I used a bunch of my scrap decorated paper and ribbons. Kevin came home in the middle of the wrapping process and helped watch the kids so I could finish. It was great the look on his face as I started to bring out his gifts and continued to bring out more and more. He started to get worried about just how much money I had spent on him. As soon as he started opening the presents he knew he had nothing to worry about and just enjoyed all of the gifts. To end the evening we all went out to dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant Yamas. I hope Kevin had a wonderful birthday celebration.

Utah Trip

Our family took a trip up to Utah at the end of July. We started out trip off at about 3:00 am and got to our final destination of West Jordan at around 7:30 pm. Yes it was a long day in the car but the kids did great. We had to make multiple stops to feed Brooke and we also made a stop to visit my sister April and her daughter and a visit to Kevin's second cousin Shelby and her family. We had some great visits and it helped to let Garrett run around and get some wiggles out. We started our vacation by having a wonderful BBQ at Wayne's house with fireworks to celebrate the 24th of July. It was great fun with great food and wonderful friends. Wayne also recently bought rock band so while everyone else was outside enjoying the fireworks my good friend Debra and I decided to try out rock band with no one watching. We had a blast. I was playing drums and Deb was singing. We were busting up laughing at what a awful job we and loved every minute of it. During our time in Utah we stayed with our friends David and Sonya. It was so much fun staying with them. We would stay up late playing games and talking and enjoyed some wonderful meals thanks to them. We love them and can't ever get enough time with them since them moved away. We had a wonderful week with them. We also enjoyed swimming, playing in the water fountain at the Gateway, visiting the dinosaur museum, walking through some awesome houses in the Parade of Homes and rocking out to Rock Band all night long.
We also got together with my friends Megan and Debra from high school and their kids for a nice evening of homemade barbecue pizza and smores. It was so much fun to watch the kids play and to catch up with each other. Megan even pulled out some of our pictures from high school and had us all laughing at some of the things we did.
Kevin was also very good to me and let me go out for an evening to hang out with Deb and our friend Jason. We enjoyed a nice dinner and fun conversation at La Vigna. Again it was fun to get together with old friends and catch up.
It was a great trip and the kids had a wonderful time. We always love the time we have to visit with these friends and always create great memories when we get together.

Sorry I can't find my picture from this trip so maybe they will make it later.

4th of July Festivities

The past 3 years our family has traveled to Utah for the week of the 4th of July. This year we have pushed our vacation back to the end of the month and were left with no plans for the 4th. My brother Pat and his wife were kind enough to invite us all over to her parents house for some fun festivities. We spent the afternoon enjoying great company and good food. The boys had a fun time in the swimming pool. Garrett just loves the pool!

Since we were in El Monte we were able to light our own fireworks. Pat put on a great show and we also enjoyed all of the illegal fireworks going on all around us. We had a fabulous view just from the front yard! Garrett and Kevin had a good time with the sparklers and the pop-its. Although we were sad to not be celebrating with our Utah friends we had great time with family here. Thanks again to Pat & Des for putting this all together.

Traditions

Almost 2 months again we welcomed our new baby girl Brooke into our family and about a month ago we blessed this wonderful baby. Now I am not the best Mom at taking pictures of my family. I am great at taking the camera places but just fail at actually using it to capture our memories. I believe I have started our own little tradition. For both of my children I have taken the camera to church on their blessing day in hopes to document this wonderful occasion but to no avail come home with nothing. So each time I have dressed my little darlings back into their blessing outfits a few weeks after the occasion to take their pictures. I just wanted to share with you their wonderful blessing outfits. Long ago I decided that I would love to take my wedding dress and turn it into something useful. I have never been one to seen the importance of storing a lovely wedding dress. I mean are you really going to pull it out again and wear it. And do you really think that your daughter is going to wear it. I decided that I would love to have my children's baby blessing outfits made from my dress. With the help of my wonderfully skilled mother, (she did all the work I just came up with the idea) here are the finished products. Now my wedding dress has brought me many more memories and hopefully I can pass these little outfits down to my children's children.

Surfing

The last few years Kevin has taken up the hobby of surfing. It's great because he works so close to the beach that most of his surfing takes place early in the morning before work. Well this past week Kevin and his buddies went surfing at Venice beach. Well to make a long story short Kevin and his surfboard got into a fight with a few waves and the waves won. Kevin's nice surfboard came home in two pieces. Now for any surfer you know that you can't be without a board especially during summer. Within two days of the incident Kevin had himself a nice new surfboard. Kevin's birthday is coming up next month so we agreed that his surfboard would make a lovely birthday gift. Happy early birthday Kevin! Enjoy your nice new board!

Spencer's enter the world of blogging

The Spencer Family is now ready to enter the world of blogging. Thanks to our wonderful friends Debra and Janna for the help on getting this blog started. I have been enjoying many people's blogs for awhile now and have been persuaded by my dear friends to document my own family adventures. I hope you all enjoy our family blog.
